Istanbul airport to Şişli — the fastest routes from IST and SAW
Step-by-step directions from both Istanbul airports to Şişli and Bomonti — metro, bus, and transfer options with current prices.
Istanbul has two airports. Which one you land at changes everything about how you get to Şişli. Here's the honest guide — no inflated taxi recommendations, just the actual fastest and cheapest routes.
From Istanbul Airport (IST) — the main airport
IST is on the European side, about 45 kilometres from Şişli. Despite the distance, you can get here efficiently.
Option 1: Metro — cheapest, ~55 minutes
The M11 metro line runs directly from the airport to Gayrettepe station. From Gayrettepe, transfer to the M2 line and ride two stops to Şişli–Mecidiyeköy.
Cost: ~₺100 total (2 rides) Journey time: 50–60 minutes First train: 06:00 · Last train: 01:00
The metro is perfectly comfortable with luggage — there are lifts at every station. This is what we recommend for most guests.
Option 2: Havaist Bus — comfortable, ~75 minutes
The HAVAİST (IETT) bus line runs from the airport to various city stops. Take the line that terminates at Taksim; from Taksim, it's a short taxi ride or metro hop to Şişli.
Cost: ~₺110 Journey time: 60–90 minutes depending on traffic
Option 3: Private transfer — door to door, ~50 minutes
We arrange airport pickups directly. A private vehicle from IST to Hexa costs €35–45 depending on vehicle size. We track your flight and the driver waits if you're delayed.
Book via WhatsApp at least 24 hours before arrival.
From Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) — the Asian side
SAW is on the Asian side. Getting here takes longer but is straightforward.
Option 1: Havaist Bus + Metro — ~90 minutes
Take the Havaist bus from SAW to Kadıköy. From Kadıköy, take the ferry to Karaköy (25 minutes, worth it for the Bosphorus crossing), then the metro from Karaköy to Şişli.
Cost: ~₺150 total Journey time: 85–100 minutes
Option 2: Private transfer — ~70 minutes
A private transfer from SAW to Hexa costs €55–65. The drive crosses the Bosphorus via the Osmangazi or Yavuz Sultan Selim bridge depending on traffic.
Practical notes
- Luggage: Both metro lines have lifts and wide doors. No need to wrestle with stairs.
- Late arrivals: If you land after midnight, private transfer is the only comfortable option. The last M11 metro runs at 01:00.
- Traffic: Istanbul traffic is unpredictable. Any road journey from IST before 09:00 or between 17:00 and 20:00 can take significantly longer.
- Currency: Metro tickets can be bought with a card. Keep small cash for taxis.
